If you live in Eastbourne you will possibly have driven past the walls of Ocklynge Manor many times, but what lies behind these is a wonderful surprise. Once the home of Mabel Lucie Atwell, the children’s illustrator, this well tended garden of nearly an acre has some interesting features including a turret looking out to sea.
From the A2270 Upperton Road turn into Mill Road by the Hurst Arms. Follow the open garden signs. There will be limited street parking. Several buses serve this area.
The gardens are open in all weather, and entry is by donation. The Friends volunteers will be selling tickets for the raffle, and manning refreshment stalls. Dogs, unfortunately, are not allowed at the Open Gardens.
